Fred lived a simple life in the country with his family and animals. He worked patiently to become independent on his parcel of land and not have to go to town to work or shop so much. There came a tipping point one day where he realized that if he could just live a little cheaper or make a little more at home he could stay with his family and animals all the time. He wondered how he could buy things at a reasonable price and not have to run all over town to do it. The Internet was so slow downloading with his primitive 56K Modem that he dreaded the hours needed to grind thru a site. Could he make bulk purchases or get a wholesale account? Share with neighbors?
And after a few hours of contemplation and a nap in the big chair Fred awoke with a vision of a new paradigm. A web site for people just like him: rural, slow modem, penurious (had to look that one up myself), eclectic, independent and friendly.
Then he started his wish list. Gardening was at the top. Herbs and Remedies for man and beast. Pet food and veterinary supplies. Gourmet and Medicinal mushrooms. He knew that all these very desirable products were out there and available but he had concerns about how to order securely from so many places.
Fred came from the old school. ‘Better safe than sorry’ and all the rest of Poor Richard and a little Mark Twain and Will Rogers just for balance. Add a smidge of John Wayne. Going through one site seemed simpler. Some people would never feel confident sending their banking info over the Internet. He wanted to offer these folks other options for making an order on line.
- There would always be a friendly voice on the phone to take the information.
- Or you could send it via e-mail
- Or fax it and we would then enter it into the virtual terminal for processing
He also liked having a catalogue that you could read in the car or take fishing. Downloadable catalogues seemed a good idea so long as it was black and white. Colored ink is not cheap.
Have a customer profile and order system that could:
Automatically reorder for pet food and stuff you used every day.
Show recent purchases for easy reorder.
Order forms that you fill in the item # or description from the catalogue rather than cart and click as usual.
Fred had a vision. In it was a front porch, a garden view and wide-open spaces. Rumbling up thru this tranquil rustic scene is a Fedups truck scattering wildlife and domestic on both sides. Fred is home and happy.
